Digging-4: Mormons Dig and Water At Kelly School in Compton
"Seven boys [inclusing Gideon] were terrified, in about 1994, as they saw the ropen
fly over a crater lake [Pung]. On the remote island of Umboi, in Papua New Guinea . . ."
I,
Jonathan Whitcomb, have interviewed Duane Hodgkinson several times, by telephone, email, and slow-mail. His credibility would be hard
to impreach in a court of law. He has been a flight instructor for years, with many thousands of hours of plane-flying experience.
My experience communicating with Hodgkinson, from 2004 to 2009, has included only positive indications of his honesty and sound mental
health.
In 1944, he was stationed at Finschhafen, New Guinea, as a weather observer for the artillery. Just west of there, he
and his army buddy saw
a giant "pterodactyl" as it flew up from a jungle clearing.
After my first few interviews with Hodgkinson,
I went to Papua New Guinea myself. There I interviewed many natives on Umboi Island, not
very far north of Finschhafen. When I left
the island, to return to the United States, I was convinced that the "ropen" of Umboi is the same
kind of creature seen by Hodgkinson
in 1944. I still believe that.
Hodgkinson was featured in a June-2009 broadcast of MonsterQuest
("Flying Monster"), and part of
his experience was recreated.

The Flying Fox is a giant for a bat;
but it is much smaller than the ropen.
